Our guest was Yasmin Sooka, the Executive Director of the Foundation for Human Rights. On 26 March the FHR launched the results of their attitudinal survey on the SA Constitution, entitled Democracy Challenged. Over 24,000 people were interviewed across all provinces on their awareness, access and attitude to human rights, democracy and the Constitution. The survey found that overall levels of awareness of the Constitution have increased from 47% in 2011 to 51% today. However, less than half of South African women have heard of the Constitution. Only 40% of the population were satisfied with the state of human rights, with Equality being the least respected right.
